Sound Skater is a flash sound-happening, that projects environmental sounds into the city of Brighton. The event is produced by SOUNDER in collaboration with the Brighton Skate Collective. Sounds recorded in the natural environments around Brighton and Bern will be diffused via Bluetooth speakers in an urban location. By keeping the sounds in constant motion, the skaters will create a dynamic interactive soundscape around and through the audience. With this project, SOUNDER hopes to confront city sounds and nature-sounds in a temporary rewilding.
SOUNDER (UK/CH)
SOUNDER is an international collaboration exploring the sounds of Bern (CH) and Brighton, (UK). It was founded by artists Esme Wright (UK), Hal Kelly (UK), Flurina Mia Häberli (CH) and Stefano Christen (CH) in 2020, joined by Ehsan Valaei in 2021. Their projects explore the sonic characteristics of Bern and Brighton (two locations recognised as UNESCO biospheres), addressing environmental issues through an inclusive sound art practice. SOUNDER utilises digital technologies to raise awareness of our local sonic environments.

Combining local sound art talents with international guests, the festival celebrates the diversity and range of this broad and hybrid art practice and pays homage to the multitude of sounds to be found in our city – with the Downs on one side and the sea on the other, as part of a UNESCO biosphere.
