Chris Sciacca
Patcham to Chattri War Memorial Soundwalk
Venue
Meeting point:
The Ladies Mile pub, Patcham
BN1 8RA
Dates & times
19 March 2022
15.30
The soundwalk will begin inside The Ladies Mile pub in the Patcham neighbourhood in Brighton. Here we will take a short time to get acquainted while tuning our ears to the interior sounds of pub life. We will emerge from the pub, walking up through quiet suburban streets out onto the sprawling bowl of the Brighton and Hove Crescent Cricket Club. From here we will circle around to the lush greenery and nature trails leading to the A27 Highway. At the intersection of a sonic mixture of biophony, geophony and anthrophony, we will slowly head to the bridge over the A27 and take the stairs leading below to the underpass, for a brief, hypnotic meditation on the power of automobile traffic. We will pause again over the bridge that leads us across the downs to the historic Chattri War Memorial for a quitter mediation, one reflective of the sacrifices our community has made in times past.
In addition, Integrated Soundscapes: Brighton Chris’ audio-visual installation will be on display at Brighton CCA throughout the festival. More information about the event can be found here.

Combining local sound art talents with international guests, the festival celebrates the diversity and range of this broad and hybrid art practice and pays homage to the multitude of sounds to be found in our city – with the Downs on one side and the sea on the other, as part of a UNESCO biosphere.
