10 May – 6 June 2021, citywide.
Pier To Pier is a public sound installation documenting life on the south coast of England between Brighton and Worthing. The work’s centrepiece is a bright orange wooden bench that will appear in ten coastal locations throughout the Brighton Festival until 6th June 2021. The bench’s built-in sound system plays a soundtrack that blends field recordings, stories from local residents, alongside a new choral arrangement from composer Jocelyn Pook. The composition was performed by a choir of over fifty singers based on the south coast, who recorded the work remotely throughout the national lockdown.
Pier To Pier is a Brighton Festival commission and was produced by Emma Higham and Lisa Peck with RAPT.
