The Listen Club returned to Stanmer Organics this summer for another edition of outdoor listening. As we are keen to try out this particular kind of listening – to sound and music pieces via headphones in different natural environments – we set up this year on the plot of the Ecomusicology Project in Stanmer Park.
As with our previous al fresco listening events, we selected a programme of four unusual sound works that would blend with the listening conditions on the site. Our aim was to offer listeners a focused audio experience in natural surroundings, and a communal setting, where the sounds in their ears blend with the atmosphere they can feel, see, touch and smell.
The works were accessed via mp3 players and heard through headphones. Programme notes guided participants through the pieces.
