David Vélez
The Acoustics of Rootedness
In The Acoustics of Rootedness, David Vélez will present sounds from his research in edible plants and sound. They comprise experiments in vegetable invigoration with sine waves, audio documentation from the squealing sounds rhubarbs made when growing in dark shades after their speedy forced growth, and underground recordings from earthworms in soil planted with rhubarbs, tomatoes and beets.
Joshua Le Gallienne will host a conversation with David Vélez at 16.00 to discuss the ideas and technologies behind David’s recent practice and on-site installation.

Hydrophony – At the Pond
Our Hydrophony installation will allow visitors to listen live to the sonic world of underwater pond-life at Stanmer Organics. The installation can be found at the pond on the Centre for Ecotherapy plot.

This live-event will be followed up later in the year with a special Listen Club at the Rose Hill, on hydrophonic recordings from around the world.
