Deal Music & Arts summer festival has brought musicians, actors and writers to Deal, Walmer, Sandwich and Dover for over 40 years.
This year Sound Art Brighton was invited to contribute two Sound Art events.
Joshua Le Gallienne’s Single-Material Performance on Deal Beach
Joshua uses sculpture, installation, and performance to stage intimate experiences exploring the relationship between sound, physical materials, and environmental phenomena. With Deal Beach as the dramatic backdrop, this site-responsive artwork utilises wind energy to produce acoustic sound from a single material: a biodegradable plastic sheet, to create a thought-provoking and unique experience for its audience.

SAB Listen Al Fresco in the Captain’s Garden
Imagine sitting in a walled Victorian garden on a summer’s day, surrounded by the buzz of bees and the rustle of grass moved by a gentle sea breeze. Through headphones, the natural sounds of this location blend with selected sound works to create a rare listening experience for each person. Sharing this experience with others becomes a surprising communal encounter.
