We are happy to announce our collaborative event with Project.Ours on August 11th at Phoenix Art Space!

This 2-part workshop will involve a practical session and demonstration on spatial/binaural audio by Norwegian, Brighton-based artist Laila Riis, followed by a philosophical discussion about queer listening approaches with non-binary British artist Joshua Le Gallienne. This is a workshop for filmmakers, sound designers, sound engineers, musicians, foley artists and anyone interested in creative ways of using sound!

About the Artists:

Laila Riis is the artistic director of Brighton based Immersive Sound & Visual Art Collective – Partial Facsimile (@official_partial_facsimile). She has been directing as well as composing, recording, performing and sound engineering for the collective since 2013 and has a passion for 3D immersive audio.

Laila will give a talk on her journey in the sound art scene and how to navigate the industry, play examples of binaural mixes and give a beginner friendly introduction to the technology available to creative immersive audio works.

Joshua Le Gallienne is a non-binary British artist exploring sustainable and unconventional approaches to the production and perception of acoustic sound within an artistic context. Through sculpture, installation, and performance, the artist stages intimate experiences that explore the relationships between sound, physical materials and environmental phenomena. Joshua is a Director of Sound Art Brighton, a female/LGBQT+ led initiative that celebrates sound art in Brighton and beyond.

Joshua will lead a discussion on queer listening approaches based on their recent research and practice.
