Sound Art Brighton at Réveil / Soundcamp 2026

Reveil (since 2014) is a collective production by streamers at listening points around the earth. Starting on the morning of the 1st Saturday in May in South London near the Greenwich Meridian, the broadcast will pick up feeds one by one, tracking the sunrise west from microphone to microphone. It follows the dawn chorus around the globe 24 hours at first light.

This stream comes from Stanmer Organics, a 17-acre ecological community located in Stanmer Park near Brighton. Founded in 1997, the community currently runs 18 projects dedicated to horticulture, eco-building, green woodworking, ecotherapy, and arts and crafts.

The carefully cultivated and rewilded plots contain crops, woodland, orchards, grasslands and hedgrows, bordering on a larger farm with horses and sheep. Birdsong is prevalent and one can hear song thrushes, chaffinches and nuthatches as well as, in the distance, the ever-present traffic of the A27 motorway.

Sound Art Brighton is one of five sound organisations from Brighton who collaborate in the Ecomusicology Project at Stanmer Organics.

This stream was set up by Hazel Reeves, an award-winning artist affiliated with Sound Art Brighton, who works in sound & bronze.
