SUMMARY:Amy Cunningham talk
DESCRIPTION:Amy Cunningham is an artist who uses the singing voice\, sound\, video\, materials and drawing to explore patterns and glitches in technologies and environments. She has exhibited her music compositions\, performances\, video installations\, and drawings in various galleries and spaces including\, Stevens Institute of Technology\, IKON Gallery\, Cafe OTO\, Towner Gallery\, Portland Sculpture Quarry Trust\, and Serpentine Gallery London. \nIn this online performance lecture Amy will be linking material from a series of her site-based art works. These are works that respond to the visual and sonic textures found within the edgelands of industrial and coastal environments; where lichen is a pioneer\, where birds and insects go about their activities amongst aggregate\, artificial lighting\, metal structures\, and electric cabling\, where we might sense the vibrancy of non-human materials. \nPlease book to receive a link to attend this online talk hosted on zoom. Live captioning will be available for the event.

SUMMARY:Environmental sound practices – SOUNDER & Michael Harenberg + Teresa Carrasco [venue TBC]
DESCRIPTION:This event will take place online. \nSound Art Brighton presents an evening exploring environmental and ecological practices in contemporary sound art. The event features a performance lecture with composers Teresa Carrasco (ES) and Michael Harenberg (DE) who lead the Sound Arts programme at the Bern University of the Arts. Notable research by Harenberg is on the impact of sound on ripening cheese with sonication and Carrasco’s research is on bio-acoustics. This will be followed by a listening session from SOUNDER (UK/CH)\, who will present their ‘Sonic Postcards’ project: an exchange of audio snapshots of environmental sounds between Brighton and Bern. SOUNDER have been artists in residence with Sound Art Brighton during October 2021\, here they will share the results of their in-person collaboration. \nSOUNDER is an international collaboration exploring the sounds of Bern\, Switzerland and Brighton\, UK\, founded by artists Esme Wright (UK)\, Hal Kelly (UK)\, Flurina Mia Häberli (CH) and Stefano Christen (CH) in 2020. Their project explores the sonic characteristics of Bern and Brighton (two locations recognised as UNESCO biospheres); addressing environmental issues through an inclusive sound art practice. SOUNDER utilises digital technologies to promote awareness of our local sonic environments. \nThe event will be live streamed 17:00–19:00. LINK TBC \nEnvironmental Sound Practices is curated by Sound Art Brighton\, an independent initiative that celebrates the presence of sound art in Brighton\, UK.
